L10 FeNi (tetrataenite) magnet patents

If your team works on this technology, the risk is building next to a competitor's claim you have not read yet, often published only in Chinese, Japanese or Korean.

Free: the latest weekly issue on this and the other rare-earth-free magnet technologies, one plain-English entry per invention.

Tetrataenite, the ordered L10 phase of iron-nickel, occurs in meteorites and is hard to make on industrial timescales. Filings cover routes to form the ordered phase and to process it into magnets.

Magnetic body and magnet

WO-2026088551-A1 · published 2026-04-30 · Denso Corp; Nichia Corp · offices: WO

WO-2026088551-A1 (Denso with Nichia) claims a magnetic body of flattened L10-ordered FeNi alloy particles, with the easy axis along the flat face and an insulating coating at least 0.5 nm thick. The flake shape allows the easy axis to be aligned mechanically, and the coating addresses eddy-current loss in a finished magnet. Denso is the main industrial applicant for L10 FeNi in our data; with its alloyed-FeNi application, this shows the work moving from synthesis toward usable magnet form.

L10 type feni ordered alloy, permanent magnet, and method for producing l10 type feni ordered alloy

WO-2026009965-A1 · published 2026-01-08 · Denso Corp · offices: WO

WO-2026009965-A1 (Denso) claims an L10-type FeNi ordered alloy containing a group 6 or group 7 transition metal, which increases coercive force, and a method of producing it. Low coercivity is the main weakness of synthetic L10 FeNi, so alloying to raise it goes to the core problem. Denso has a second L10 FeNi application on flattened, coated particles; watch for property figures in national-phase filings.

A competitor's filing on this technology is easy to miss when it is published only in Chinese, Japanese or Korean. Our weekly briefing covers new filings in this and the other rare-earth-free magnet technologies, with a plain-English note on each family. Your address is used to send the sample, to follow up at most twice about it (one click stops that) and, if you ask, to set up a trial or subscription. No list sale.

New publications reach our sources several weeks after they are published (Chinese ones three weeks or more), so the latest weeks are incomplete.
