Cerium-containing high-abundance rare earth sintered NdFeB permanent magnet and preparation method thereof
Zhejiang Sheensen Magnetics now holds a Chinese grant on a sintered NdFeB magnet with cerium at 30 wt% or more of the rare-earth content. It uses no dysprosium or terbium and no grain-boundary diffusion step. Three cast alloys (Nd/Pr-rich, Ce-La-rich and Y-Nd-rich) are crushed and mixed. An in-situ hydrogenation step then forms a thin, continuous rare-earth-rich grain boundary. The applicant reports coercivity (Hcj) of at least 15 kOe, remanence (Br) of at least 13.7 kG and energy product ((BH)max) of at least 39 MGOe. It also claims a cost cut of 30% or more, for electric vehicles and wind power. These are the applicant's own figures; the competition is over reaching this coercivity with high cerium and no heavy rare earth.
